The “Historic Droitwich: Its Streets and People” Heritage Lottery project ran from October 2013 to March 2017. During that time group members and volunteers carried out research on the documentary evidence and professional building historians, a dendrochronologist (tree-ring dating specialist) and an archaeologist undertook specialised investigations. All this information has been combined to give a more complete picture of the original date and development through the centuries of a number of timber-framed properties along Droitwich’s Friar Street and High Street.
Timber-framed buildings which will be discussed during the walk will include Droitwich’s oldest identified timber-framed building dating from 1340, and the first Wealden style building known to be built in Worcestershire (no others have been found to date in Worcestershire).
