Transcribing

Old documents are not always easy to read and may be in Latin, French, or Old English and written using a different script, hence the need to translate and/or transcribe.

The Dodderhill Parish Survey Project has benefited from a group meeting regularly to go through the available Wills and Inventories of previous inhabitants of our parish, their relations and others in the neighbouring parishes up to the mid nineteenth century.

At first sight, seventeenth century documents may appear totally illegible, but with practice most can be deciphered.
